Cross-Stitch & Needlework Magazine

children by the Seaside

The 2016 summer issue of Cross-Stitch & Needlework magazine features my new “Children By the Seaside” design. Working on this brought back great a memories of the fun days my sister, brother, and I would spend out at Jones Beach on Long Island, NY. Stitch up some summer fun!

This issue goes on sale in shops on May 17. You can also subscribe by clicking here.

Upcoming Cross Stitch Retreats!

This is going to be quite a year for attending cross stitch retreats! I have three to attend  in 2016. Get out the traveling bags everyone it’s time to finally meet in person.

THE LAST WEEKEND IN APRIL

I will start with first things first. Coming at the end of this May,  I will be making my second trip to Canada to attend the Stitch-It-Central weekend. When I attended two years ago it was a wonderful event thanks to all my Canadian friends and to Maria and Rui Santos, the owners of  Stitch-It-Central in Ingersoll , Ontario. This year we will meet on Saturday, April 30th and Sunday, May 1st. For the details of this retreat please click here

By the way, the shop is just across the street from where we will be gathering so you can stock up on supplies too. I will be doing a special design to celebrate our time together!

MOVING ON TO SEPTEMBER…

You all know how the fabrics from Polstitches Designs are so perfect for my designs… Well I am so very happy to tell you that we will be having a fabulous day of friendship and stitching in Cardiff, Wales on September 17, 2016! This will be the first chance I have to meet some of my UK stitching friends in years. Jo Critchley has chosen a lovely venue for us and we are pleased that Bothy Threads will also be joining in. All details are on  Polstitches website and you can just click here to link to it all. You will also see a link to the Facebook group that was started for the event where you will find info on hotels and ride sharing and also get to meet some of us that will be attending. I will be presenting a special new design in celebration of our gathering.

I am really looking forward to both of these events and I do hope you will be able to join us.

IN OCTOBER…

If you love the beach and you love stitching you may want to join in on Stitching At the Beach. The dates are  October 12th-16th, 2016 and it will be in beautiful Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Sounds like an ideal time to be there! All details for their event can be found here. I am planning on being a vendor at this retreat. Stay tuned…

Some Early Holiday Fun

If you are busy getting your Holiday stitching  started there are a few new designs I have out in the magazines just for the season. The Night Before Christmas, in issue 196 of Cross Stitch Crazy, brings the beloved tale of Santa’s  journey to life. As he soars above the rooftops, all is well at home where “not a creature was stirring” and the stockings were hung with care, waiting to be filled with Christmas treats for the children. Worked on 14 count Aida or 28 count even weave with a stitch count of 109w x 140h stitches, the finished design will measure 8w x 10h inches.

Holiday Victorian

In Issue 197 of Cross Stitch Crazy you’ll see the Festive Charm of my newest Victorian Lady ready for Christmas. We see her wrapping and gathering presents before her Christmas Eve guests arrive. Pretty beads embellish the sweep of her red skirts and her fur trimmed robe will keep her cozy and warm  on this special evening.

Desk Calendar

Finally, I was so pleased when Ruth asked me to work on the 2015 Calendar for the World of Cross Stitching. Rather than a Diary this year, the team at the magazine has come up with this delightful idea for a desk calendar. There is a chart and illustration for each month in a whimsical animal theme. The colors are all bright and cheery and I hope that each design will bring a smile to every day. The calendar format allows for easier handling of the charts making them quite nice to stitch from. Look for this as your free gift with issue 224, on sale December 4, 2014.

Six New Chartpacks

October 2014 chartpacks

I’m happy to introduce  six new chart packs, including my brand new Canadian Beauty. All chart packs are $12 with the exception of the Victorian Christmas Library which is priced at $18. I will be loading these onto my Order Chartpacks page shortly. Fingers crossed, I expect these back from the printer on October 6th and will be able to ship once the packs are assembled. I am also shipping to my online outlets next week so you can order directly from these wonderful stores including Stitch It Central in Canada, Polstitches Designs in the UK, Casa Cenina in Italy, 123 Stitch here in the US.

I am away this week  for a much needed  break while the charts are being printed. I hope to come back with renewed creativity and more new ideas for designs.

X Joan
